WOW!!!!!!!
such a great idea, this site! i am sure there will be plenty of wonderful projects having their home here
and where are the Alistair-projects? not ready yet?
i’d also like more information about the textile project, i was very taken with it and the pictures are simply lovely.
we’d been looking at locations for some other textile work that’ll be on here in due course, when i came across this site. i couldn’t involve the people i’d been working with last week which was a shame but at the same time i was wanting a slightly more formal approach based on some of the topics we’d discussed. as such my core reference were -
iain borden – skateboarding, space and the city
marc auge – non-spaces (i love this book!)
with a dash of de certeau’s practice of everyday life
i was also thinking about james turrell, especially with regarding to the positioning of the hoop.
the stones in the centre of the circle may or may not be prehistoric although it seems unlikely that landowner would’ve been allowed to stick a bunch of wooden stakes around them if they were. that said there’s lots of prehistoric activity around this site so it seemed appropriate. unfortunately our third collaborator and standing stone guy did a no show.
it was still there today despite some workie guys looking kind of bemused about it so we’re going to leave it for about a week to see what happens – we’re not over enthused about leaving man made fibre in the environment for longer.
it’s a great wee site and while we wouldn’t exclude it from further use we’d do it differently and on a larger scale the next time
and finally we took it all down and returned the site to what it was. the landowner had left it in place – we heard thru the grapevine the local guys working they were ‘intrigued’!
on the night we found a real concentration of bats, so many we’re thinking we may use something to do with them for some sort of future work. watch this space!
